Get involved in health and social care service planning for people with learning disabilities

People in Forum

Join the Carers' Forum!

The easiest way for parents/carers to get involved and help shape the way services are planned and developed is to join the forum for parents/carers of adults with a learning disability.

The forum is a recognised channel of communication between parents of adults with learning disabilities and service planners in the NHS and local authorities.

Partnership Boards

Members of the Carers' Forum sit on the City and County Learning Disability Partnership boards. They represent carers at the board meetings.

Voluntary Sector Network

The Voluntary Sector Network allows voluntary organisations to meet regularly and have the opportunity to discuss the issues and decisions being raised at the Partnership Boards.

Speak Up

There is also a forum called Speak-Up, for adults with learning disabilities living in Nottingham City, Broxtowe & Hucknall, Gedling or Rushcliffe. (A separate forum exists for people living in North Nottinghamshire).

Speak-Up is not a support group, but a recognised channel of communication between service users and service planners for learning disabilities. It enables people with learning disabilities to get their views directly to those who can change the way services are planned and developed.

People from the Speak-Up group also attend the Nottingham City Learning Disability Partnership Board meetings.

Members of the group are invited to talk about the things that they are worried about and things they would like to see happen. They may be asked to comment on a report or piece of work done by the Partnership Boards.

For more information about Speak Up meetings and how to get involved please contact Marie O'Sullivan at Speaking Up on 0115 940 8591.
