Amaani Tallawah

 

Amaani Tallawah aim to empower African/Caribbean/Dual heritage people, (and their carers), who use mental health services in Nottingham to healthy independent living, to gain confidence and to be socially included within the wider community.

 

They hope to meet this aim through upholding the mental and physical well-being, personal dignity and independence of users of the mental health services, through the provision of support, advocacy and representation of the needs and views of Black people to statutory organisations, planners of relevant services and the African Caribbean Community (ACC) itself.

 

Services offered include:

 

  • Floating Tenancy Support
  • Advocacy Service
  • Drop In Centre
  • The Link - a separate project managed by Amaani Tallawah; addressing the social needs of service users through activities such as group meals, day trips, seasonal and cultural activities

AWAAZ

 

AWAAZ is an Asian Mental Health Resource Unit which aims to provide and advocate for appropriate mental health services for Asian people in the Nottingham area.

 

AWAAZ offer confidential advice, information and support to:- Asian individuals experiencing any degree of mental health problem, carers of these individuals and professionals involved with them.

 

AWAAZ work with health and social care professionals involved with Asian individuals and run an Asian men’s support group advice sessions.

Making Waves

 

Making Waves is a service user-led monitoring service. They recruit, train and support current and ex users of mental health services to evaluate local mental health services, participate in research, deliver and advise on training etc.

Carers' Council

 

The Carers' Council is a registered local charity for carers of people with mental health problems.

 

They have established a network of groups & individuals who are all caring for someone with a mental health problem. They help support and develop local self-help groups for carers of people with mental health problems.

 

The Carers' Council has representatives on many groups responsible for planning & delivering mental health services, locally. They also work in partnerhsip with statutory agencies to improve the ability of local mental health services to meet the needs of their users & carers.

 

They hold regular meetings, 4 of which annually are Open Meetings which anyone can attend.

Nottingham Advocacy Group (NAG)

 

NAG run City-wide Council meetings - a regular discussion forum between Notts Healthcare NHS Trust and its service users.
