This group first met in January 2002, and since then has established a routine which meets every 6 weeks or so and deals with matters and concerns of older people (50+) who live in the town.

The forum allows members to air their views about a range of issues. The topics of interest include crime & disorder, general health, preventing falls, leisure pursuits, transport, access to shopping areas, litter etc.

The group try to get a specialist speaker for each meeting, to deal with topics chosen by the group at the previous meeting. The numbers attending have now reached about thirty.

The aims of the group are :-

  • To encourage and support existing active groups for the older citizens of the area.
  •

  • To form effective liaison with voluntary and statutory organisations which are of benefit to older citizens and refer on.
  •

  • To be the means whereby the concerns of older citizens are heard and acted upon.
  •

  • To act as the older citizens' collective voice on the Local Area Forum.
  •

  • To ensure that two-way communication with older citizens in the area is efficient and they are informed about what is happening.
  •

  • To ensure that older citizens are aware of the best means of finding help and information when assistance is needed.

New members are welcome to come along to the group meetings held every 6 weeks or so at Gedling Borough Council offices on a Friday morning between 10.00 and 11.30 a.m.
