Lace Market Trail for Visually Impaired People

The Lace Market Trail allows visually impaired people to tour Nottingham's most fascinating buildings with some useful aids to enhance the experience. It is a series of tacile marble sculptures of some of the areas most beautiful bricks and mortar, accompanied by an audio guide graced by the mellifluous tones of actress Joanna Lumley.

Lace Market Trail

The half-mile tour starts with the Lace Market Visitor's Centre, and works its way from the Unitarian Chapel around such spots as St Mary's Chuch and the Adam's Building on Stoeny Street, finishing opposite the National Ice Centre.

The tactile guides are 3D impressions of the buildings mounted on waist-high plinths and the idea is to trace the outline of what you're looking at with your fingertips, while interesting features are pointed out by Ms Lumley.

All eight of the scultures are accompanied by Braille and tactile text, with raised brass markers in the pavement to help make the tour as accessible as possible.

To go on the tour, pick up a personal sterao and headphones for £1 each from the Lace Market Heritage Point at the Galleries of Justice.

During peak times (April 1 - October 31) the tour is available Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with last issues at 3.30pm.

Off peak (November 1 to March 31) the tour is available Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, with last issues at 2.30pm.
